The history of McCain began on February 23, 1957, when two brothers, Harrison and Wallas McCain opened the world's first plant for production of frozen potatoes in the picturesque Canadian town of Florenceville, on the St. John River. In its first year, the company’s 30 employees produced 700kg of product an hour and earned sales of $152,678.
More than 100 agronomists and experts in growing potatoes of McCain company all over the world help local farmers to grow better quality crops of potatoes and other vegetables in order to ensure stable supply of raw materials to the plant.
With the help of its own experts from the Potato Production Technology Center in Canada and the world's best engineering team the McCain company is constantly improving production processes, developing new approaches and improving technical infrastructure, increasing the efficiency and quality of its products. The specialists from McCain laboratories all over the world are involved into the process of development of innovative food products.

In 2007 McCain celebrated 50 year anniversary since the opening of the first plant. During this time a small family business has grown into a huge international corporation, with annual turnover over $ 6 billion.
