— Olexandr Leonydovich, half-year ago You were given the position of the Chief of production. It is a responsible and rather difficult area of work on an enterprise. Will You, please, tell us where You have succeed for this time?

— I proceeded from the assumption that absolutely everything is determined by human factor. Therefore, I tried to choose the collective of professionals that works mobile, concertedly, correctly, quickly and collectively works out production problems, both into our service and in cooperation with other services. In a few words — we work as one team, and it makes good to the whole production.

— Will You tell us, please, about the innovation in production in a current year? How do the lines work? What was changed? Improved?

— In order to achieve the goals put by — a 20-thousand-tons production of ice cream in 2007 — was given a “thin” place — I mean the deficit capacities of ice cream cookroom and insufficient amount of milk-preserving reservoirs (tanks). We raised a question of purchasing the imported cooking line. But, on account of the department of main production engineer, the chief of the ice cream department and engineering department, it was developed the successful and far more cheap project of reconstruction of cookroom # 1 with the compact and comfortable equipment placement, with the separate space for dilution of dry components (sugar, non-fat dried milk, dry waffle wastes) with the use of turbine mixer, was set a powerful modern homogenizer and refrigerant of ice cream mixture in the cookroom # 2, it has given the chance to provide the department for the performance of the production program by reasonable investments.

In order to eliminate the “thin” place of the 2006 season — shortage of milk-preserving reservoirs (tanks) for the ice cream mixture, that resulted in the stoppages of cookroom, there were set 6 additional tanks on the site; the idea was offered by the foreman of the cookroom Logvynchuk N.G., as a result, the problem of stoppages of cookroom in the 2007 season was completely liquidated.

Last season, 2 new, more powerful lines #9 and #10 of ice cream in cups’ production were placed in operation, and there was implemented a new helical compartment to the Comet line, it has solved the problem of production of the “family” group of ice cream and ice cream in the plastic packing during the season of mass production of ice cream in cones, and also improved the quality of products and labor productivity.

Innovations were also applied in the butter department and in the department of sour-milk and cheese production.

I would like to note that the reconstruction of all departments was carried out according to the projects that were jointly developed by the department of main production engineer, production workers (the foremen of departments and foreman’s assistants), and engineering department and were qualitatively implemented by the service of master mechanic, for the most part.

— During the peak season, You have more than 650 subordinates. Leadership always means responsibility and difficulties. What are Your basic principles of management?

— Yes, during the peak season, I have more than 650 employees, but any collective is a great responsibility. My main principles are justice and honesty; everyone must work with the same loading. Trust is vital for the team work.

— Before this position, You have been working on the enterprise as a processing engineer on realization of novelties and new technologies for 3 years. Will You tell us about Your career.

— In 1999 I graduated from the Ukrainian state university of food technologies.

On May, 2004, I joined the public corporation “Zhytomir Dairy Factory”. Until that time I worked in Cherkassy city on Joint-stock company “Yuriy” as an engineer.

For 3 years, on the public corporation “Zhytomir Dairy Factory” I had been realizing novelties. During this time along with the department of main production engineer, a production department and marketing department were introduced about 100 new kinds of products, a part of these products became the hits of sales (“Ptichye moloko”, “My cow”).

These years, in the position of application engineer, were interesting and very responsible; in fact people always expect new and interesting kinds of products from our enterprise.

— What do Your services are working on now, what priority directions can You define in work?

  1. In the fourth quarter of 2007 was completed the development of projects of a new waffle department in the place of old boiler-house with a new storage facility for waffles in accordance with all requirements of the “State sanitary rules for milk-processing enterprises” and quality and safety of products’ control systems. The apartments for the workers of waffle department were also engineered according to all sanitary-domestic rules.
  2. It was developed a project of a new department of ice cream #5 in the place of former waffle department by establishing 2 new, more productive lines of ice cream in waffle cups, establishing 4 tanks for storage of ice cream mixture and modern washing section to provide the production of safe products of the guaranteed quality.
  3. Our services took active part in preparation of materials to make a budget statement for 2008 year (filled in the platform with receipts, rates of application, checked in the manual mode the verification of findings by raw materials consumption on production output and so on).
  4. Production engineers along with production workers effectively cooperated over creation of winter ice cream assortment of “family” group and cakes. For the first time, it was produced a multi-layer cake with biscuit and jelly layers and various decorations.

At present moment, we work at novelties of summer assortment, so that the ice cream of the trade mark “Rud”, just as it is now, would be in future #1 in Ukraine and abroad.

— How did the experience of production engineer help You today in work?

— It greatly helps me, in fact the production engineer is a specialist, who is professionally oriented not only in technology of production of that or other type of product but also can estimate operating efficiency of equipment, correctly organize a working process. Therefore experience of the production engineer allows me to speak with the workers of all services, involved on the enterprise, as they say, “the same language”. As usual foremost is quality and safety of products that is made on the enterprise and the experience of the production engineer plays not the last part in solving of such questions.

— How do you estimate today's situation at the market and what, in Your opinion, will take place in the nearest time?

— Today, the trade mark “Rud” is one of the leaders on ice cream market and from year to year aims to increase its presence at the market of Ukraine. In general I consider that in our country the culture of ice cream consumption will change gradually. Today it is the favorite seasonal delicacy of children and adults, but the annual growth rates of ice cream according to the data of association “Ukrainian ice cream” make up only 5%. It is considerably lower than confectionery (22%) or beer (20%). I think that core players of industry, to whom in the first place belongs TM “Rud”, and also “Lakomka”, “Laska”, “Hercules”, in the future will concentrate not only on the steady raising of gross production but also on the technological innovations, especially in the group of “family” ice cream with various additives.

— How can You, from the point of Chief of the production, estimate the ice cream season of 2007 year?

— Production of “cold delicacies” in 2007 was “hot”. In fact our consumer has already got used to the fact that every year TM “RUD” intends to surprise by novelties and satisfy the most fastidious tastes and demands. I can proudly say that we coped with this task and this is the result of daily, team work of all services of the enterprise, successful technological ideas, diligent ice cream production in the departments, and provision with clear work, equipment, coordinated work of all services on making and realization of products. And, as a result — a 20-thousand tons of ice cream! But we are not going to stop half-way and actively prepare to a next season.

— And, finally, what do You want to wish to everyone?

— I would like to wish to everyone strong health, inspirations, and new creative projects!
