Potato flapjacks - the visiting card of Belarus
Potatoes appeared in Europe not so long ago, in the XVI century. In Belarus it settled down well and after a while became the second bread for the Belorussians. So many delicious dishes of potato were invented! For example, potato flapjacks. Although potato flapjacks are considered to be the national dish of Belarus, but the first recipe refers to German cuisine and was invented in the ХІХ century.
How to cook potato flapjacks: classical recipe
You need the following ingredients for cooking:
- 5-6 potatoes;
- 1 onion;
- 1 egg;
- 2-3 tablespoons of flour;
- salt, pepper to taste;
- oil for frying.

Cooking instructions:
Rub peeled potato on a fine grater. Rub it quickly and immediately mix it with grated onion in order to prevent darkening of potatoes. Add egg into the potato mixture, then add flour, salt, pepper and mix everything.
Put potato flapjacks on the preheated pan. Fry on both sides until golden brown. It takes approximately 15 minutes. If you want potato flapjacks to be crispier - do not cover the pan with a lid and pour more oil. Serve it with sour cream.
How to cook potato flapjacks with mushrooms in pot
You need the following ingredients for cooking:
- 500 g of mushrooms;
- 20 ready-made potato flapjacks;
- 1 glass of sour cream;
- 2 tablespoons of butter;
- 1 tablespoon of flour;
- 150 g of cheese;
- 1 onion;
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil;
- salt, pepper to taste.
Cooking instructions:
Wash mushrooms, dry and cut into slices. Fry in a pan until complete evaporation of the liquid. Add onions sliced into circles, salt, pepper and fry until ready. Heat butter in another pan, add flour, salt and pepper. Grate cheese.
Put potato flapjacks into each pot, then put mushrooms, pour the sauce. Then put again a layer of potato flapjacks, mushrooms and sauce. Top with grated cheese. Put pots into preheated oven for 30 minutes, Serve the dish in pots.
Potato flapjacks with mushrooms and cheese
You need the following ingredients for cooking:
- 700 g of potatoes;
- 300 g of mushrooms;
- 200 g of onions;
- 1-2 tablespoons of flour;
- 1 egg;
- salt, pepper to taste;
- oil for frying.
Cooking instructions:
Fry chopped onions in a pan, then add mushrooms and cook until complete evaporation of the liquid. Rub potato on a fine grater, add egg, salt and pepper. Mix everything. Add fried onions and mushrooms into this mixture. Mix everything again. Put the mixture by tablespoon in the preheated pan and fry on both sides until ready. Serve it up with sour cream.
Potato flapjacks with mushrooms and meat
For cooking stuffed potato flapjacks with mushrooms and meat you need the following ingredients:
- 7 potatoes;
- 1 onion;
- 1 garlic bulb;
- 250 g of minced meat;
- 3 tablespoon of flour;
- salt, pepper to taste;
- 100 g of frozen mushrooms;
Cooking instructions:
Rub potato and onions on a fine grater. Add flour, salt and pepper to taste and mix everything.
Salt and pepper the minced meat, you may also add garlic. Chop mushrooms and put them into the minced meat.
Put the potato flapjack by tablespoon in the preheated pan. Put the minced meat over it and top it with potato mixture. Repeat the same process with each potato flapjack. Fry potato flapjacks on both sides until golden brown. Serve it up hot and largely poured with sour cream.
